About Mike in his Own Words

I am eighty-two years old, and I have everything: a large family that I am close to and a vocation in teaching that continues. I’m retired and finally able to use my time how I want. My artwork suits me.

My struggle with art was my lack of natural talent, which was never overcome by being formally schooled. Also, I never had anything that I was intrinsically motivated to portray.

Instead of finding the extrinsic thing that spoke to me, I found art by discovery. My process, no matter the medium, is to begin with no goal in mind. I begin and keep going until something appears, and a feeling or emotion comes with it. When I am successful, I feel what I see.
